Queens Review

The way we define authentic cuisine is by our own personal experiences. When I go to a Mexican restaurant, there are certain things I’ve come to expect. I expect certain smells, ambiance and music to be played. When these things are not present, I begin to question the authenticity of the food. In my search to find that home-like Mexican restaurant in New York, I stumbled upon Don Nico.

Don Nico is a Mexican restaurant in Jamaica, Queens. Upon stepping into Don Nico, I was met with a familiar setting. The feel of the space was something I had known before. This feeling was very encouraging. My friend and I ordered tacos, horchata and a whole lot of sangria. As mentioned before, I base my judgment on Mexican restaurants on their tacos, guacamole  and horchata. These three things are essential items.

We started with chips, salsa, and guacamole. (Pictured Below) The chips were warm, clearly freshly made! I find it extremely hard to ruin guac, so I thought this one to be pretty good. However, it seems as though they have clientele with very low tolerance for spicy food, as the hottest salsa was still somewhat mild.
